Gerda Surgautaitė is a co-founder and board member of Laimingas Žmogus (Happy Human), Lithuania's humanist organisation. With a background in theatre and acting, she conducted Lithuania's first humanist wedding ceremony in 2016 and went on to help establish humanist ceremonies across the country, building Laimingas Žmogus into a self-sustaining social enterprise rather than a grant-dependent charity. Alongside her ceremonial and leadership work she teaches in a high school, where she champions critical thinking, equality and empathy as an alternative to the traditionalist messaging young people encounter online.
